Huawei P30 Pro and brilliant mode
More and more, smartphones are used for photography and it is hard not to notice that for many people they have already replaced traditional cameras or cameras. Progress in mobile devices is very easy to spot over the last decade. At the same time, manufacturers have come to perfection in terms of software, packed with various options and additional modes. After all, we are talking about very small dies and small optical systems all the time. Unfortunately, physics can not be omitted here and we will have to accept this weakness of phones for a long time.
Recently, an interesting thread about Huawei P30 Pro has appeared on Reddit . It has a quadruple camera module at the back: 40 Mpix with f / 1.6, 20 Mpix with f / 2.2 and wide-angle lens, 8 Mpix with f / 3.4 and ToF sensor to detect depth of field. It’s a really great combination that translates into high quality photos and videos.
It turns out, however, that the available mode for photographing the Moon does not work in a way that we could imagine. The whole matter has been traced because of the difference in the number of details between photos in professional and automatic mode. Surprisingly, in the latter the phone recorded more details and how the tests proved, the Huawei P30 Pro uses predefined textures, thanks to which it is able to make such detailed photographs of the Earth’s satellite.
Wang Yuexi, who discovered the whole thing, managed to even fool the algorithms of the camera. He used a photo of Pluto and fragments of calligraphy, and the phone thought it was the Moon, so he added several elements, such as moon craters.
Below you can see an example of how moon mode works
In my opinion, this addition in the Huawei P30 Pro is a fun thing. Undoubtedly, this is somewhat ridiculous to the camera itself, which is one of the absolute leaders on the market, but on the other hand, for a large number of people it will be a brilliant addition.
